How Do Dental Implants Work?
Our dental implants stand as a testament to modern dental innovation, perfectly mimicking the look and feel of your natural teeth, anchored with precision into the jaw for unparalleled stability.
A dental implant is a tiny titanium post that acts like a tooth root. This is what we’ll place in your jaw, and your gums and bone will heal around this post. After healing, an implant crown goes on top of the post using a small connector piece called an abutment.
So, while dental implants are a more extensive treatment option compared to some other restorative dentistry techniques, they are extremely durable, strong, and beneficial.
The Dental Implant Treatment Process
Embark on your journey to a rejuvenated smile with our meticulously planned implant procedure, ensuring comfort and precision at every step under the expert care of Dr. Lloyd.
Before treatment, you’ll meet with Dr. Lloyd to discuss the possibility of dental implants. He’ll examine your teeth and give you an individual recommendation and treatment plan. From there, the dental implant treatment process follows these steps:
- Placing the implant: You will be given local anesthesia during this process (we also offer oral sedation if you need it). We’ll place the post in your jaw and send you home to heal for a couple of months.
- Healing period: The healing process takes around 4–6 months as your jaw and gums bond with the implant. During the healing period, we can place a temporary replacement tooth.
- Adding the replacement tooth: Once healing is complete, the permanent replacement tooth or implant crown, is placed atop the titanium post.
At Pearl Dentistry, we provide oral conscious sedation methods. So, if you’re nervous about the dental implant procedure, we can ensure you are comfortable and relaxed during your visit. Call today to learn more about sedation dentistry options.
Benefits of Dental Implants
While dental implants may not be the right fit for all patients, For those who are ideal candidates, our dental implants promise a transformative experience, offering the following benefits:
- Long-lasting: Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution. Teeth implants last longer than other missing teeth replacement options. They can often last a lifetime, depending on when they are placed.
- Natural-looking: The implant post acts like an artificial tooth root, while the replacement tooth is color-matched to your natural teeth. So, your new dental implant will look just like your other teeth.
- Functional: After the implants heal, they function just like natural teeth. You can chew, speak, talk, and smile confidently.
